Vladimir Putin’s attack on the sovereign nation of Ukraine is an affront to democratic ideals, endangering tens of millions of civilians including the journalists covering the violence and its effects. The GroundTruth Project, home of Report for America and Report for the World, stands with these local reporters and foreign correspondents, and calls on world leaders to support their essential work as members of the free press. This includes our own government, and we join the Military Reporters and Editors Association and Military Veterans in Journalism in calling for the Biden administration to stop blocking journalists from embedding with U.S. troops deployed to neighboring NATO countries in response. Together we must uphold our sacred democratic values against the global rise of tyranny.
