The GroundTruth Project, a nonprofit media organization supporting the next generation of reporters, is working with Google News Initiative and Society of Professional Journalists to build teams of university students who will “ground truth the midterms” by covering local polling places and tracking voter disenfranchisement on Election Day, November 6.

Selected students will receive professional training and mentorship from GroundTruth and Society of Professional Journalists staff, and their work will be edited and distributed through the GroundTruth network and editorial partners.

We have particular need for reporters in North Dakota, Arkansas, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Montana, Nebraska, Connecticut, Utah, Rhode Island, Wyoming, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina but will consider applications from anywhere in the country.

Thanks to support from the Fink Family Foundation and the Bake Family Trust, university-affiliated students will receive $100 to support Election Night gatherings at their student publications (pizza, soda, etc.), and will become eligible for GroundTruth multimedia fellowships reporting on democracy. Applications are now closed.
