A doctor’s journey

It’s flu season and doctor Mario Mendoza is fighting for kids in U.S. government detention centers to get the flu vaccine because health officials say that during the pandemic, the flu vaccine may prevent the most serious COVID-19 consequences.

Dr. Mendoza was arrested in California in 2019 while trying to give flu shots to children. When he was denied access to the detention centers in the U.S., he traveled to Mexico to administer the flu shot in migrant shelters there. Now he makes the case that kids are being left in detention centers to die.
