The global response to the HIV/AIDS crisis has been called one of the most effective humanitarian interventions of all time. African nations including Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland have dramatically reduced infection and death rates in recent years — and have helped provide a model for American communities like Washington D.C.’s Anacostia neighborhood on how to do the same.
And yet in regions like the American South, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, HIV/AIDS is an exploding epidemic fueled by intravenous drug use, unsafe sex and stigma. How can these parts of the world learn from others’ success?
The GroundTruth Project, in partnership with the Solutions Journalism Network and Narrative 4, will embark on an international filmmaking reporting project to find out in an immersive multimedia series.
GroundTruth will select two, six-week film fellows to participate in the reporting journey. Fellows will receive $5,000 and have all travel expenses covered. Special consideration will be given to candidates experience covering local and/or international health stories who demonstrate a passion for working collaboratively.
