BOSTON — At a time of dramatic growth for The GroundTruth Project, we’re very pleased to announce that Managing Editor Rachel Rohr will be taking on a leadership role for us at Report for America.

As Rohr returns from the Knight-Wallace Fellowship at the University of Michigan she will be stepping up to a new job title in June as Director of Training and Service at Report for America.

And today we are also announcing a call for applications as part of a national search for the position of Managing Editor of GroundTruth based at WGBH in Boston, a leadership role which we are seeking to fill by June.

Charles Sennott, Founder, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of The GroundTruth Project, which launched Report for America in the fall of 2017, said, “Rachel has done an extraordinary job for GroundTruth first as our Digital Editor and was quickly promoted to Managing Editor. Over the last three years, Rachel has led innovative editorial efforts on global issues such as climate change and national reporting initiatives that explored a deeply divided America. She has also produced our GroundTruth podcast, which last year received the National Edward R. Murrow Award and an Online Journalism Award.”

“We are thrilled to have all of her talents flowing into the exciting work of Report for America, and to a leadership role that will draw on her many strengths,” said Sennott.

Report for America is a national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms across the country to address critical issue-based or regional coverage gaps. Report for America is scaling up from 13 “corps” members, as we call our reporters in the field, to 60 reporters who will be deployed to 35 host newsrooms across 27 states and Puerto Rico.

In her new role, Rohr will be in charge of the onboarding and continuing training that is provided to reporters throughout their two years in the corps, and she will also be helping to shape the public service component of Report for America which requires each journalist to do a service project in their host community.

“I’m extremely excited to get started, and to bring everything I’ve learned from my time in public radio and at GroundTruth and at the Knight Wallace fellowship all together through this position, and to work with so many talented early-career people,” said Rachel Rohr.
